We all go through phases in our life and so do the vehicles we drive and use. I grew up riding in and driving very small sports cars. So when I was buying my first car.. I, of course bought a small 2 door compact car. That would be the most logical vehicle to buy. As time goes on, one wonders, How do I pick up that new bed, grill, lawn mower, piece of furniture, take yard debris to the dump,move, etc.... What do you do?
Find a family member or friend with a truck and sweet talk your way into getting some help. Well, that usually only works for a limited amount of time, then you are on the hunt again or....maybe, it is time to buy a truck.
I don't remember that many trucks on the road 20 years or 30 years ago. At first the trucks were not much more than utilitarian. You had the vinyl bench seats ( be careful not to armorall those seats or you'd go sliding) and minimal dashboard readouts and other gadgets and maybe a radio.Today they are loaded from one end to the other. It is like having all the luxuries that are in a car with hauling ability to boot. It seems a very high percentage of people have a truck or SUV in their personal inventory of vehicles these days. I have found that having a truck gives me much more freedom to do anything I need or want to do, and I am not alone. Every neighbor of mine owns, at least, one good truck.
Okay what are the down falls of owning a truck?.. It used to be that poor gas mileage was a big one. That is no longer true. With the re-designing of modern engines and the introduction of hybrids and computer chips, trucks have much better fuel economy. They have better handling and stopping power, all because of great technology. Why wouldn't you want to drive a truck? Some, do not like the size of a big truck or the fact that they require more room to manuver, but now with the more compact versions, that to is a thing of the past. With my truck I can put a camper shell on or take it off. Which means I can haul my dogs around and all kinds of precious cargo, or I can haul a kayak, refrigerator or yard debris or anything my heart desires.. I have no limitations. Don't get me wrong I do sometimes miss my little sports car, but the versatility of a truck gives me more options and these days I can live with that.
